I posted the follwing message on the GWF:
Hello,
Could someone who has access to the MIC's on Ancestry do me an obligement and look for the follwing man:
John Tracey, Pvt. 265334., Black Watch
I have the application form, submitted by his mother, for inclusion on the Crieff War Memorial, Perthshire.
States he went 'missing' 31st July, 1917 and later 'Presumed Killed".
I also have his 'Missing' entry from the Strathearn Herald which ties up, and can confirm that he had an MIC.
However, I cannot find him on CWGC, SNWM or Soldiers Died!
If his card isn't available I may have to take the plunge & purchase from National Archives site.
PS
By the way this is not the 'mystery man' I mentioned previously |

Mmm! - Was it not usual practice for those killed, died, discharged etc. to have such details inserted in the remarks column of the MIC ?
Here is the 'missing entry' from the local paper;
THE STRATHEARN HERALD: 08.09.1917
CRIEFF MAN MISSING
Mrs Hugh Tracey, Ford Road, Crieff, has received official information that her son, Private John Tracey, Black Watch, has been posted missing since 31st July. Private Tracey was, prior to joining the Colours, employed with Mr John Menzies, coal merchant. His father and a brother are serving with the forces. |

The application form, completed by his mother, for the Crieff War Memorial - another puzzler!
