260 Bath Street, Glasgow.
Google map showing location
NS 582 659
Not listed on UKNIWM.
The church has a tearoom/restaurant built on to it, which is open from 9am to 4pm. It looks quite nice and might be worth a visit when in town, although I didn't stay long enough.
My thanks to the caretaker and the organist for allowing me into the church to take these photos.
No names listed for WW2, although the memorial commemorates the dead of that war as well as the Great War.

I couldn't resist looking up one of the names
DEMPSTER, EBENEZER
Initials: E
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Gordon Highlanders
Unit Text: "C" Coy. 2nd Bn.
Age: 37
Date of Death: 26/10/1917
Service No: S/43161
Additional information: Husband of the late Isabella Dempster.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 135 to 136.
Memorial: TYNE COT MEMORIAL
Interestingly there is a Thomas Mochrie listed as well. I wonder if he was the 4th Mochrie (the one not a brother of the other three) killed at Loos discussed yesterday in the Kilbirnie thread?

The only other T Mochrie listed on CWGC is:
Name: MOCHRIE
Initials: T H
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
Unit Text: 5th Bn.
Date of Death: 13/08/1915
Service No: 8162
Additional information: Son of Mrs. K. Mochrie, of 10, Sufton St., Birkby, Huddersfield.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: I. F. 7.
Cemetery: ROYAL IRISH RIFLES GRAVEYARD, LAVENTIE
I'm not sure if this proves anything, as IIRC, 5 SR was a Glasgow battalion.

Do you know if this memorial was previously sited at the old Renfield Street Church?
I notice one of the names is John Hope. The Minister at the old Renfield Street Church was Dr Leslie Hope. |
