Malcolm,
I've always wondered if the poet Willie Lamb was included on the Perth memorial. As far as I know he joined the navy in WWI and spent his time at Scapa until he contracted some kind of food poisoning and was invalided out of the service. He never recovered and spent the rest of his life bed-ridden at home in Perth until he died in the 1930's.

Yes Malcolm, he was a Perth lad, educated at the academy and then straight into the navy. His father was a self-employed builder and I think he built some kind of extension onto the family bungalow to make a bedroom for his son's final years. There was some talk years ago of turning this house into a museum but I take it it never happened. He was looked on by many as Scotland's greatest poet in the 1930's and he lived longer than I thought, he died in 1943.
I think he was struck down in Scapa with some kind of serious stomach virus and never walked again and the impression I got was that this was in the service of the navy and presumably eating navy food etc.. I suppose that having died years later in 1943, and not from combat wounds, its unlikely he made the Roll of Honour, yet he was serving his country when struck down.

William Souter is neither in the 'Golden Book' or Perth Academy Roll of Honour.

I will post in this thread two stained glass windows which are adjacent to the shrine and form part of the overall memorial when the church was unified and dedicated as the city and county war memorial in 1926.
