UKNIWM ref no: not listed
OS map ref: NN304991

The Well of The Seven Heads can be found just south of Invergarry, on the west shore of Loch Oich.

In 1663, two sons of the Chief of Clan MacDonnel were murdered during a quarrel with an uncle and his six sons. The murderers' deaths were ordered in vengeance for the crime, and sixty men arrived at the house of the seven, to carry out the execution. Their heads were removed from their bodies and washed in the well, before being taken to the Chief in Invergarry.
The obelisk sits above the well. Inscriptions, in Gaelic, Latin, French and English tells the story of the well, and on the top of the monument is a sculpture of the seven heads of the murderers.

From a trip up and down the Great Glen yesterday:

The Am Baile web site indicates that all may not be as it seemed!

Reading the story, while this was clan warfare, I don't believe, that within the national guidelines, a case could be made for this to be classified as a war memorial. It's not even a Terrorist Act, just a gruesome story of murder!
