Map Ref: NS719632 (Roughly!)

Located in Old Monkland Cemetery. Like the Memorial in New Monkland Cemetery not exactly a War Memorial as such . . . . . ?

Just having another look at this 'Memorial' and I'm having trouble figuring out what some of the these men's Regiment were - e.g. L.C., S.W.B., S.W.B. and R.M.F.

Suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks Adam,

I noticed I put in S.W.B. twice - the one I meant to put in was L.V. - Lanarkshire Volunteers?

That's probably right. I thought it was a Y, which would have been Lanarkshire Yeomanry.

I don't know Derek.

Maybe the men mentioned had a wee bit of assistance from the British Legion - burials can be an expensive business.

There is another quite impressive stone in Old Monkland (which I haven't posted yet) and it's called 'The Veteran's Corner' It lists 5 men, all veterans of the Crimea, Indian Mutiny etc., who died between 1911 and 1918. I'll try and find out a wee bit more about them soon.
