The memorial is located in an area adjoining Alford Cemetery. It is of Kemnay granite and was the work of the firm of Messrs Rust & Alexander of Aberdeen. It was unveiled in June 1921.

The missing Private W Gray is likely to be the man below.
This man enlisted at Alford, has a 6th Battalion number and was formerly 10830. He landed in France in November 1914.

A Pte. William Gray, e Alford was in the 6th Gordons but attached to the 8th/10th.
