Whilst out walking at the weekend I stopped and read the names on Ormiston Memorial as I'm sure we all do as we pass them.
On this Memorial is a James Moggie when I went home I searched CWGC and found that he was a L/CPL in the Royal Scots killed in action in April 1918 during the Battles fought to stop the German advance.
During my CWGC search I found an other Moggie (John Wynn) a civilian who was killed in March 1941. I have done a bit research into this unusual name but have found no link between the two.
John Wynn Moggie does not appear on Haddington War Memorial.

There's a piece about the Indian born sculptor who designed this memorial at The Scotsman website.

Fanindra Nath Bose

"...One is Fanindra Nath Bose, an Indian sculptor born in 1888 who came to live and work in Scotland and became a member of the RSA but drowned in a Peebleshire loch in 1926.

"He was very, very good and would have been an incredibly important sculptor. But he died aged younger than 40, which in artists terms is very early in his career," said the RSA's collections curator, Joanna Soden.

"We have nothing by him and he is possibly the first non-European member of the artists' institution, which is really important."

Bose designed the Ormiston War Memorial, and a sculpture by him is currently on show in an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London."

Additional Information:Son of Hugh and Rose Ann Tague, of Ormiston, East Lothian.

The CWGC notes on this cemetery say:
During the Second World War, this cemetery was used by the Ramla Royal Air Force Station and by various Commonwealth hospitals posted in turn to the area for varying periods.

The absence of a squadron number often indicates that the man was a member of the ground crew however the CWGC headstone schedule shows that he was an Air Bomber so it's more likely that he died in hospital.

It may be a co-incidence but three South African Air Force men died on the same day and are buried alongside Tague.

I have also been asked by the family about Robert Scott he served in the 2nd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. His family were told at the time that he was killed in an aircraft over German. However on his date of death 19th September 1944 the Argylls were fighting at the Geel Bridge during Market Garden.
If he was a Para taking part in the Airborne drop would his unit be shown as Argyll or as a Para? If he was a Para and his plane was shot down before he jumped then the family information would be correct apart from he died over Holland.

Additional Information:Son of John and Mary Scott, of Ormiston, East Lothian.

The 2nd Argyll's (previously the 15th Battalion) were part of 227th Infantry Brigade in the 15th (Scottish) Division and had no Airborne role.
As you say, they were at Geel Bridge, in support of the "Market Garden" main attack but on the flank and one source has "15th (Scottish) had five days' hard fighting in securing the town of Best, just beyond the Wilhelmina Canal"

CWGC's cemetery notes have:
In the early part of September 1944, Geel was the scene of some of the heaviest fighting encountered by Commonwealth troops since they had left Normandy. The 50th (Northumbrian) Division and the 15th Scottish Division were both involved here in the forcing of crossings of the Albert Canal and the Meuse-Escaut Canal, necessary for the advance into Holland.

I suspect the family stories have become a bit muddled.
