Anne

Could you clarify your last comment. Does this mean this memorial is known by three different names? As the Balgownie, or as the Bridge of Don or as the Old Machar War Memorial?

If this is this case then is Balgownie the official name?

We've already got this memorial on the forum as the Bridge of Don here:

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=787

The UKNIWM lists it as the Balgownie memorial as UKNIWM - 5814

http://www.ukniwm.org.uk/server/show/conMemorial.5814/fromUkniwmSearch/1

But it also has it listed as Bridge of Don Parish UKNIWM - 44644

http://www.ukniwm.org.uk/server/show/conMemorial.44644/fromUkniwmSearch/1

From the descriptions though they are clearly the same memorial.

Regards

Adam

Adam

I think you will find it is Old Machar. The WW1 / WW2 memorial is clearly to " The men of this parish ...".

Balgownie is a place which I believe lies in the parish of Old Machar. The same will be true of Bridge of Don. Anne will be more aware than me of the parish boundaries in Aberdeen City.

I have just been given info on local memorials "Mac" who is an ex Gordon has been going around the NE with his camera and taking loads of photos the text is what he put to the photos.
I liked the idea of map ref so included that. Anne
