I think this may be the memorial mentioned in the "sticky" thread re Netherlands. It depicts a 51st HD Divisional piper receiving a single flower from a little Dutch girl. Legend has it that this event actually took place, as the local inhabitants had nothing else to give their liberators.

Schijndel was liberated 23rd October 1944, after much bloody fighting and heavy casualties, 5th Camerons alone, losing 8 officers and 63 other ranks in one nights fighting.

Richard

It is the one listed for Holland. I knew it existed but I couldn't realy find much information about it on the internet.

I particularly like the 'HD' motif in front and the rock for a pedestal.

The same statue is in Perth but has slightly more modest surroundings.

I believe the sculptor responsible for this statue also did the 51st Div memorial in Normandy you have already posted on.
Regards

Adam

I do like this memorial.
He certainly has the "look" of a Scot about him.

Any idea who the sculptor is?

I have the info on the sculptor somewhere but unable to find it at the moment. I also have the unveiling on video. It was unveiled in 1994 for the pilgrimmage of the 51st veterans for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Holland. Gen sir Derek Lang ex 5th Camerons was master of ceremonies, and unveiled by the local Dutch dignitaries. The plinth is of Scottish granite.

Video of the unveiling of the monument before it was moved to its present location. The video was produced in 1994 and presented to the veterans. It shows them marching through Schijndel.

Accompanied some 51st HD Veterans back to Holland to join the celebrations of 65th Anniversary of liberation in Vught. Managed to take 4 old Camerons to the 51st HD Monument for a short memorial service. For those interested I have some video here; http://www.keep-em-moving.co.uk/Schijndel%202009.html
