Leslie - Gordon District
The Leslie war memorial is a polished grey granite memorial tablet set onto the wall of the kirk, capped by a pediment with a wreath carved in relief on the face.
Apologies for the quality of the photograph. The layout of the names is slightly confusing, it seems reasonable to assume that the names below Private Alex Gordon on the right hand column are all Privates, and that the names relating to 1939 - 1945 are only the bottom two names, but this might possibly be wrong. Perhaps someone can help to confirm or correct this.

Jim

I think you are right with the names. Right hand side all privates, bottom two Second World War.

You are also correct with BD for Captain Grant

CWGC Details:

Name: GRANT, The Rev. JOHN SPENCE
Initials: J S
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Captain
Regiment/Service: Gordon Highlanders
Unit Text: 6th Bn.
Age: 27
Date of Death: 09/04/1917
Awards: MC
Additional information: Son of George and Mary Grant, of Hillbrae Culsalmond, Insch, Aberdeenshire. Native of Leslie, Insch. B.D.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: I. A. 47.
Cemetery: HIGHLAND CEMETERY, ROCLINCOURT

I wonder if he is also on the Insch memorial?

Adam
