Kinrossshire Advertiser 23rd April 1921
Few places in our district possess a more ideal site for a memorial to the brave lives sacrificed for their country than the sequestered and beautifully situated village of Saline.
Consisting of an imposing column in front of Saline Parish Church a handsome memorial has been erected to the memory of some 45 members of the parish who made the supreme sacrifice in the recent war.
The unveiling ceremony was performed by Miss Moubray,Balgonar Estate, and Sir Henry Dalziel of Kinneddes,in the course of an appropriate address, referred to the large population of local men who had given their lives.
Subsequently a memorial service was held in the Parish Church, conducted jointly by the Revs John McAra,Saline and J.Fox,UF Church,Saline. There was a large congregation as well as ex service men and local societies. |

K.O.S.B.
HENRY McINTYRE.
I'm not sure why it was decided to include Henry's name on this memorial but........
He is named on the Selkirk Roll of Honour as Mackintyre and on the CWGC Register as Macintyre but all military and civil records have McIntyre.
MACKINTYRE, HENRY, PRIVATE, K.O.S.B., 1914-15.
Henry Macintyre – age 34 – Private (8082) 2nd Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
In 1911 Henry was a miner living with his wife and family at Gorebridge, Stobhill, Midlothian. As a reservist he was recalled at the outbreak of war and joined his battalion in France in September 1914. Henry was shot by a sniper.
Born 1881 in Selkirk as Henry Evatt McIntyre. Son of the late Henry McIntyre (died 1898) and Catherine (Kay) McIntyre (died 1884) formerly of Kirk Wynd, Selkirk. Husband of Barbara (Boyd) MacIntyre of 19 Woodside Terrace, Steelend, Saline, Fife who he married in 1907 in Belfast, Ireland.
Killed in Action on 18 March 1915 and buried in Chester Farm Cemetery, Belgium.
As far as I can tell he is not named on any of the Midlothian War Memorials. _________________ Ken |
