WW1
Robert Mercer, C.H.

(Glasgow Herald 14th of May 1915)
"Two young soldiers from the hamlet of Crossford, near Dunfermline, have given their lives for their country. They were Private Robert Mercer and Private John Lamont, both of the Cameron Highlanders. The two wrought together at Rosyth Dockyard, they enlisted together in December last, and presumably they died together, the same post bringing the official intimation on Wednesday to their mothers of their death on April 23. Mercer, who was only 17 years of age last birthday, was born in Dunfermline. Lamont, aged 20 years, was a native of Motherwell, but had been resident in Crossford for a number of years."

That they worked together, joined up together (army numbers being sequential) and died together in the same action.
