(Glasgow Herald 26th Nov 1914)
"Private William Paton, son of Mrs Andrew Paton, Tradesman's Row, Townhill, Fife, has been killed in action. Private Paton was a Black Watch reservist, and prior to being called up was a miner at No.7 pit, Townhill colliery. His mother who is a widow with one other son, has no official intimation, although she has written twice to the war office. She observed the name of her son in the published lists of casualties. A letter to the son failed to bring any response."
