The Rickarton Church and Parish war memorial takes the form of a grey granite tablet set into the wall of the kirkyard, by the roadside.

This is a strange memorial. It's almost like they couldn't agree on any sort of symbolism so they had none whatsoever. It's also on the churchyard wall but not inside the churchyard. Perhaps something to please everyone. A design quite literally sitting on the fence

It would be very interesting to find out the background to this design.

Does William Gardner's place of residence say 'Snob Cottage'?

I looked Rickarton up on Google Maps since I didn't know where it was. It's on the A957 Stonehaven to Crathes road. Also according to Google known as Slug Road!

Well spotted Adam.
It was only after I read your post I found some notes I made on my last visit. Apparently the memorial was originally inside the kirk but this has since been converted into a house and the tablet was moved to its present position on the wall outside.
