A bit of a stooshy about the wording on the memorial within the town council.
They didn't want the Property Committee taking the huff and resigning, little has changed in local politics in a hundred years I see....
(16th of June 1915)
"At a meeting of Selkirk Town Council Treasurer Wright moved that the descriptive tablet recently erected on the Flodden memorial was incorrect and should be altered. He said that it conveyed the idea that the memorial was erected by the municipal authority and not by public conscription. Councillor Crichton seconded. Councillor Dickson moved an amendment to approve the inscription. Speaking in support of the amendment Bailie Dodds said he considered the motion simply meant a vote of censure on the Property Committee, which he expected would resign in a body if it was carried. On a vote being taken the motion to alter the inscription was defeated by 11 votes to 2."
