Buckhaven & Methil - Kirkcaldy District

The Buckhaven and Methil war memorial is a tall freestone pedestal supporting the freestone sculpture of a highland infantryman. The pedestal rests on a base of two low steps and is surrounded by a low iron railing. The commemorations and names of the WWI dead are listed on large bronze panels on the faces of the pedestal. The names of the WWII dead are listed on slimmer bronze panels on the face of the projecting angles of the pedestal.
The monument stands in the memorial park facing Wellesley Road.

I havn't managed to do any research on this one but think the sculpture may have been by Thomas Beattie of Edinburgh.

Thanks for the info Paul. Thats interesting I wonder where they got their information from? I'm sure I heard that Beattie was responsible for the Methil soldier and it might be that he carved the figure in stone but it was Thomas Good who actually modelled the figure in clay to be copied so he would get the credit of sculptor. I've never heard of him, there was an Edinburgh sculptor called Hubert Good (maybe a brother) but as far as I know he carved in wood. I've also heard that Beattie carved the Crianlarich memorial but maybe this means Good was involved there too? I'll need to do some research unless you know anything more.
