The Scotsman of the 11th of October 1920 states it was unveiled on the 10th by Sir Donald MacLan M.P. Also that the memorial is made of red Peterhead granite.

I know this id off topic for the great war memorial, but since my picture of the WWII memorial is still here I thought I should point out that because of building work the WWII memorial has been moved to a position just out side the church main door.

Robert Melrose, Military Medal – age 23 – Private (10144) 1st Battalion, Scots Guards.
Robert enlisted in Gorebridge, Midlothian in September 1914 and joined his battalion in France in February 1915. He was awarded a M.M. in October 1916.

Born 1893 in Yarrow, Selkirkshire. (Source:SNWM and GRoS – Birth Register)
Son of William and Margaret (Anderson) Melrose of Corriefeckloch, Bargrennan.

Missing in Action on 15 September 1916 and named on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France.
Also named on the Bargrennan War Memorial near Newton Stewart.

Named on the Galashiels War Memorial in Selkirkshire as:

PTE. ANDREW SANDERSON. Seaforths
Andrew Sanderson – age 26 – Private (2835) 8th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.
Andrew resided in lodgings with Mr John Miller at New Hunterfield, Gorebridge in Midlothian. He enlisted from there and landed with his battalion at Boulogne in July 1915 but he was fatally wounded in the chest three months later and died in the 2nd Stationary Hospital at Abbeville.
Born 1890 in Galashiels. Son of the late Jane Sanderson (died 1909).
Died of Wounds on 15 October 1915 and buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery, Somme, France.

He named John Miller as his legatee.

Named on the Atherlstaneford Parish War Memorial in East Lothian as:

PRIVATE CHARLES JACK
Charles Jack â€“ age 28 â€“ Private (7409) 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders
Charles was a farm servant when he enlisted in February 1906 and in 1911 he was serving with the 2nd Camerons in India. He was a rural postman based at Gorebridge, Midlothian when as a reservist he was recalled to his regiment at the outbreak of war and he landed with his battalion at Le Havre on 14 August 1914, one of the first British formations to move to France.
Born 1886 in Haddington as Charles Duke Jack. Son of the late Deborah (Duke) Jack (died 1892) and of Donald Jack of First Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian and of East Garleton, Athelstaneford.
Died of Wounds on 9 October 1914 and buried in Vendresse Churchyard, Aisne, France.

His brother also fell and he is named on the Newtongrange War Memorial as WILLIAM JACK, RS.
