R.S. SCARLETT

Named on the Aberlady War Memorial in East Lothian as:

SEC. LIEUT. R.S. SCARLETT, ROYAL SCOTS
Robert Stubbs Scarlett – age 21 – Second Lieutenant, 16th Battalion (2nd Edinburgh) Royal Scots.
Robert was educated at George Watson's College in Edinburgh before attending the East of Scotland Agricultural College. He enlisted in the 15th Royal Scots in September 1914 and as Private (17741) he landed with his battalion at Le Havre in January 1916. He was wounded on the first day of the battle of the Somme on 1 July 1916 and after he had recovered he was commissioned in May 1917.
Born 1896 in Edinburgh. Son of Thomas Aitken Scarlett and Emily Robertson (Stubbs) Scarlett of Aberlady and of 204 Newhaven Road, Leith, Edinburgh.
Killed in Action on 20 December 1917 and buried in Wancourt British Cemetery, France.

J.M. CRIGHTON

Named on the Tranent war Memorial in East Lothian as:

CRIGHTON, JAMES
James Millar Crighton – age 21- Private (18821) 16th Battalion (2nd Edinburgh) Royal Scots.
James was a student at George Watson's College in Edinburgh when he enlisted in December 1914. He landed with his battalion at Le Havre in January 1916.
Born 1895 in Tranent. Son of David and Elizabeth (Dickson) Crighton of 76 High Street, Tranent.
Killed in Action on 31 May 1916 and buried in Albert Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
