Named on the North Berwick War Memorial in East Lothian as:
ALASTAIR M. McKELVIE
Alastair MacNab McKelvie, Distinguished Flying Medal – age 34 – Flight Sergeant (971310) 61 Squadron, Bomber Command, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
Alastair was the Wireless Operator/Air Gunner on his Lancaster bomber which had taken off from RAF Syerston in Nottinghamshire for a raid on Essen. The aircraft was shot down by a night fighter at La Hulpe near Brussels. He had been awarded a DFM while with 144 Squadron, Bomber Command in August 1941.
Born 1907 in Cowdenbeath, Fife. Son of George and Janet Shearer (MacNab) McKelvie. Husband of Elizabeth Walker (Hume) McKelvie, of North Berwick who he married in 1929 in North Berwick.
Killed in Action on 3 June 1942. and buried in Brussels Town Cemetery, Belgium. _________________ Ken |
