While doing some family history today, I discovered a second cousin of my granny's died of wounds at Mersa Matruh in Egypt in 1916. David Walter Dick was born in Dunnichen (Letham) in 1892. He served with the South African Infantry. (His mother was South African and the family moved there between 1905 and 1911). I've found him on the South African War Graves Project and CWGC data base but not Scottish National War Memorial. I understood (but could be wrong!) that those born in Scotland were eligible to be commemorated at SNWM. Could someone with more knowledge than I have advise me. please?

Early this year Lt Col Colin McGrory , the secretary to the Trustees of the SNWM the Edinburgh Castle stood down from his post at the castle after around 3 years and his assisttant Secretary , Mary -Clare MacFarlane also resigned her position and in their place there would appear to be a CEO , SUSAN FLINTOFF who took over the post as Keeper of the Rolls at the SNWM .
I wrote her to see if she was to take over the excellent work of Lt Col Roger Binks (formerly RSDG Lt Col ) who was in post as Secretary of the SNWM for over 9 years and then yes Lt Col Colin McGrory and assistant secretary Mary- Claire who all did Sterling work in accepting WW1 and WW2 scots casualties of war to add to the Roll of Honour but so far ive not heard from her about her accepting any casualties of war to be added to the Roll at the castle.. I will wait several weeks before sending her a chaser communication and hope shes takes the same role of accepting several casualties to the roll each year . I dont know how many staff this new CEO has in the office as i knew it was a Part time post with Roger Binks and Colin McGrory .........

I would go into the SNWM website and uss their email system and see who replies . They would want a birth cert in scotland , some info on war service , medal roll info and yes death using newspaper reports and yes copy of the CWGC info as well.

I note that your relative is not listed in the two publications on WW1 from arbroath and district and not listed on the Letham angus war memorial either
