I am currently doing research on the Poloc war memorial as part of my research of war memorials at Scottish cricket clubs.

I have visited Poloc a couple of times as part of my role as a scorer for Heriot's cricket club.
Took pictures of the war memorial on my last visit.

Alexander Johnstone Brown the younger of Middleton Grange, Leeds, Lieutenant Seaforth Highlanders died 11 April 1918 in France on active service.
To Elizabeth Sharpe Brown spinster.

CAPTAIN ALEX. JoHNSTON BROWN, 10th Seaforth Highlanders. 11th April, 1918. Captain Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Brown, Middleton Grange, near Leeds, was born at Airdrie on 16th January, 1896. Leaving the High School in 1912, he was, till the outbreak of war, in the employment of Messrs. Love & Stewart, Ltd., Hope Street, Glasgow. On 2nd September, 1914, his brother Henry and he joined the Glasgow Highlanders, and .crossed with them to France in November. In October, 1915, he was badly gassed. For his work prior to that he was mentioned in Lord French's despatches, and recommended for a commission. He was gazetted to the Seaforths ; returned to France in August, 1916; was wounded in October; crossed again to France in July, 1917; and was again wounded, severely, in October. In March 1918, he went back to the front as a Lieutenant, and was shortly afterwards promoted Captain. Wounded near Vieille Chapelle on 9th April, he died at Etaples on the 11th.

Private 2402 1/9th Highland Light Infantry landed on 5 November 1914.
Commissioned 2nd Lt. Seaforths 23 November 1915.
