Hi folks,

Pte Alexander Souter, 241292 Gordon Highlanders, was recently commemorated by CWGC via In From the Cold Project.

https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/75467641/alexander-souter/

He is known to be buried at Lumphanan (St. Finnan) Churchyard, there is a photo of the headstone on Find-a-Grave, but a copy of his burial record will be needed to satisfy CWGC. I don't suppose anyone here can help?

Cheers!

I have found that the local authorities are usually very helpful in searching for the burial record, specially if you mention that it is to help locate the burial of someone recognised by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

I've agreed with Terry at In From The Cold to take this one forward with the Council.

The Council got onto this immediately I asked for the burial record but they found that their burial record for Lumphanan Cemetery doesn't go back as far as 1920. All rather frustrating when there's a photo of the grave marker.

Mike,

Just a thought re the lair number you are looking for in Lumphanan (St. Finnan) Churchyard.

Aberdeen & N.E. FHS publish MI booklets or all the graveyards in Aberdeenshire.

booklet: The Kirkyards of Lumphanan (AA089) burial ground: Lumphanan St Finnan

There is an Alex Souter (12 July 1920) buried in Lumphanan (St. Finnan) Churchyard, Stone 60.

Also in the lair is

Jas. G. Souter 9th Oct. 1918
Alex Souter 12th July 1920
Margaret Souter 15th Dec. 1951
Ann E. M. Souter 9th Feb. 1982

Thanks John, that's helpful. Don't know if the Commission will accept something other than an actual burial record.
