Colleagues
Pte 26686 James LYNCH, of the 1/7 Duke of Wellington Regiment is on the Huddersfield Drill Hall war Memorial in Yorkshire but he was Born at GLENLUCE WIGTOWNSHIRE and at that time Resided in Stranraer and Enlisted at Ayr

He was formerly Pte 27605 KOSB and died of wounds 11 April 1918 aged 28 and grave in France.

I cant find his name on the Stranraer War Memorial and does anyone know if there is a War Memorial covering the GLENLUCE area as there does not appear to be a war memorial in Glenluce that i can find when in that area .

Pte James Lynch is recorded on the SNWM

thanks
patrick w anderson

His service record is on Ancestry.
He was a ploughman in Glenluce when he enlisted in the 3rd KOSB in August 1916. He joined the 19th Labour Battalion of the Royal Scots in France in January 1917 and was transferred to the Labour Corps in May. He was transferred again to the West Riding Regt. in October 1917. James died in the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station

Hi Pat - from memory the Old Luce Parish War Memorial is easy to spot.
It's right on the Main Street in the village of Glenluce on the edge of playing fields (Lady Stair Park)
See https://gohistoric.com/places/710326 or https://canmore.org.uk/site/196898/glenluce-old-luce-war-memorial

He's on the Old Luce memorial in Glenluce which is posted at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1785 and the info on him is at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1785&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30 (scroll down).

If you put NX201576 into streetmap.co.uk as OS Grid, you will see the location on a map.
