Kennoway - Kirkcaldy District
UKNIWM Ref No. 8530

The Kennoway war memorial is a grey granite celtic cross with wheel-head and celtic designs carved in shallow relief on the cross-head face; and a wreath in shallow relief at the base of the cross shaft. The cross stands on a tapering pedestal of rustic granite with the commemoration and names of the dead in lead lettering on the face of granite tablets set into the face of the pedestal.
The monument stands in front of the kirk on the Cupar Road.
This community has paid a high price for the 'Armed Peace' with five names added to the memorial from post World War II conflicts.
The inscription at the top of the pedestal reads:

KILLED IN ITALY
Private Mitchell Collins, eldest son of the late Mr Mitchell Collins and of Mrs Collins, 13 Sandy Brae, Kennoway, has been reported killed in action in Italy.

He was 29 years of age and married, his wife belonging to Edinburgh. Employed by Mr A. Brown, joiner, East Wemyss, previous to joining the Army, Private Collins was for many years a prominent figure in the Boy Scout movement in Kennoway.

His father was killed in the last war and a brother, a prisoner of war in Germany, is expected to be repatriated soon.
