Saw the following picture from the Evening Telegraph of 31st December, 1930. It shows V.C. winner Charles Melvin unveiling a war memorial to those of the South U.F. Church, Kirriemuir who fell in the Great War.
Only visible on the plaque is the following inscription:
IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN
OF THIS CHURCH WHO GAVE
THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR
"LEST WE FORGET"
There was no other article within the newspaper indicating if there was a Roll of Honour within the church (local Kirrie paper may be more informative).
The South Parish Church, on Glamis Road, appears to have been converted into a private dwelling and there is no sign of the original plaque on the exterior.

This is UKNIWM 5670, which (with additional text to commemorate those lost in WW2) is still mounted on the wall of St Andrew's Church of Scotland in Kirrie.
It can be seen here http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=3172 just to the left of the large conifer.
I thought it was already recorded on here but can't find it - I will remedy this soon.
PS This was the church in which I attended Sunday School in the 60s... |

Looks like it has been moved - it appears to be higher on the wall, and the window doesn't appear to be the same. |

It does look to have been moved David.
St Andrews CoS was built in 1903 as the South UF Church so would be the 'home' of this memorial.
Perhaps the plaque was taken down to have the WW2 inscription applied and was then put up in a different position on the church wall???
I shall find out tomorrow... |

Apologies. This memorial was from South Parish Church, not South U.F. as stated. Have changed the title. |

Although the newspaper cutting states South Parish Church, this was South United Free Church and is now St Andrews Church of Scotland
This is the plaque as it is now. There are a few places on the exterior walls where it may have been mounted originally. It's almost as if space was deliberately left for the WW2 addition...
The town's library has the files of the local paper (Kirriemuir Herald) on microfiche and will have a look at this when I have time.
