Sandy Gunn was a Supermarine Spitfire photo reconnaissance pilot who was taken prisoner after his plane was shot down. Gunn took part in the "Great Escape" from Stalag Luft III in March 1944, and was one of the men re-captured and subsequently executed by the Gestapo.

Named on the North Berwick War Memorial in East Lothian as:

R. DE H. M. MILLER, 2nd LT
Reginald de Hochepied Marillier Miller – age 19 – Second Lieutenant, 3rd Garrison Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers attached to the 14th Battalion
Known to the family as Rex, he was educated at Fettes College in Edinburgh. He enlisted as Private (61339) in the Northumberlad Fusiliers and was commissioned in September 1918. He died in the 18th Corps Main Dressing Station on wounds received at Vendegies au Bois.
Born 1899 in Copford, Lexden, Essex. Son of Charles Marillier Miller and Helen Louisa Mary (de Hochepied- Larpent) Miller, of Bramerton, North Berwick.
Died of Wounds – 27 October 1918 and buried in Maurois Communal Cemetery, France.

Note: CWGC records him as having been awarded a Military Medal but I cannot find any confirmation of this.

His brother Ralph Marillier Miller – age 20 – Second Lieutenant, 25th (Reserve) Battalion, Manchester Regiment attached to the 17th Battalion is also named on the North Berwick Memorial.
