The WW1 memorial plaque in Birgham Village (installed in 2014) includes:
PRIVATE WALTER GALBRAITH - but I cannot trace him anywhere (and I do mean anywhere!)
My usual "go to place" the Coldstream History Society has him as killed on 19 April 1917 but that was a William Alexander Galbraith from Kelso.
HELP!

Well, if it has stumped you ....!
If the memorial was only unveiled in 2014 surely the names must have been subject to some sort of local trawl. Perhaps by the Community Council: an approach to them may be a left-field way of finding out. Unless you've tried it, of course.
The link to the Berwickshire News report of the unveiling no longer works: maybe that had some biogs. |

Kelso is only a few miles from Birgham.
Possibly he was known as Walter, or an error by the modern compiler?
Not a common name. |

Thanks for your comments guys.
I think that William Alexander might have been known as Walter is a realistic assumption but.......
I'll keep digging! _________________ Ken |
