James G. McArthur was awarded a M.M. and Bar during WW1. Can anyone give me some information as to why these awards were made. I have searched to find the answer to my query but with no success.
I'm sure someone here can help. Thanks in advance.

You'll be lucky to find a citation for a Military Medal. Citations were not published in the London Gazette so your best bet will be to check local newspapers in the hope that there was some mention made of the award and why it was given. |

Any clues to Rank, Regiment etc?
Ancestry has 2 MM recipients, but it may not be either!
1. James McArthur, Machine Gun Corps, No. 18238 (MM)
2. James McArthur, Cpl., 1/9th HLI., No. 331734, died 12th October 1918 (MM & Bar)
SDGW: Born Old Monkland, Lived Airdrie, Enlisted Glasgow
Effects: Father David
1901 Census, Living at 48E Coates Place
Father David, mother Annie, children Alexander 6, James 4 & David 2.
Not much help in answering why either received their award though. Sorry!

Thanks David. Will try looking at some newspapers and hopefully find some info to add to his details on my project.
Yes, Anne, your number 2 answer is the correct one. I have most of his details but wanted to see if I could add another section to what I have found.
Appreciate both your assistance.

Morag - The Daily Record of 6 July 1917 p.8 has a photo of your man reporting the award of his 1st MM.
I'll see if I can find anything about the 2nd MM. _________________ Ken |
