Trinity Academy Great War Memorial

OS Ref: NT 255 765

Many thanks to Andrew Grant for these photographs.

According to Trinity Academy's website the First World War was..

a conflict which was to claim seventy-one former pupils and two teachers out of some three hundred who served.



It is sited between the other War Memorials in the school

Three of the men on this memorial are also on the Granton Memorial.
They are
Robert Glen Brown, 2nd Bn, KOSB. Rank: Private. Died 28/06/1918 and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial. He was born circa 1887 and on the 1901 census is shown as living at 22 East Cottages, Lower Granton Road.

Alexander Hoy Gloag: 1st/5th Bn KOSB. Rank: Private. Died 14/10/1918 and is buried at Dadizeele British Cemetery. He was aged 32 and married - his wife lived at 12 Glen Street, Edinburgh. At the time of the 1901 census he was living with his parents at 38 Lower Granton Road (Wardie Hotel) and was an apprentice tailor.

Ernest Jeffrey: 4th Bn Royal Scots. Rank: Lieutenant. Died 24/03/1918, aged 23 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. His home was on Granton Road where his father had a business as a Nurseryman and Seedsman.
