I have learned that a plane crashed just outside Blairgowrie in 1944.

The crash occurred on the 8th February.

Sergeant Charles Alexander Irvine was killed when his Whitley Bomber (Z6880) of 19 OTU, crashed whilst flying out from RAF Kinloss.

Charles was a son of John and Sarah Irvien, Barrow-in-Furness and is buried there in a CWG.

Is there any site online that would provide further information?

Thanks

Mark

Mark - the really excellent Air Crash Sites Scotland has lots of detail at
http://www.aircrashsites-scotland.co.uk/whitley_mhoir.htm
including photo of a memorial.
There are several links to other stuff such as 19 OTU details.

OOPS Embarassed wrong Irvine, wrong flight, wrong date - sorry.

Interesting story.....................

From 'Bomber Command Losses, Volume 7'

Whitley V Z6880 from A Flt, 19 OTU (Operational Training Unit)

Take off 0958 on 8 Feb 1944 from Kinloss for a navigation exercise.
Partially abandoned around 1130 after the port engine failed at 9,000 feet. Blairgowrie police later reported that wreckage had been found about a mile West of the town and that five members of crew who had parachuted were at their station awaiting an ambulance. Sgt Irvine was the only fatality and is buried in Barrow-in-Furness cemetery.
