The following is the notice issued for this event:
Glenkens Story field trip. The war memorials in the parishes of Balmaclellan and Kells. Saturday afternoon, 21st May.
Paul Goodwin will lead a guided tour of eighteen war memorials in six locations in the parishes of Balmaclellan and Kells (including the oldest civic war memorial in Scotland). Paul is a member of the Scottish Military Research Group.
Because of restricted parking at some locations and to help keep our party together we will travel by Glenkens Transport Initiative minibuses around the locations.
We will be outside for much of the time and at some points walking across grass (muddy if wet) so please wear suitable clothing and footwear dependant on the weather. Two of the visits involve walking up a flight of stairs and a flight of steps but there are no other physical restrictions.
The tour will leave from the CatStrand, New Galloway at 1400. Please gather by 1355.
We will return to CatStrand at approximately 1630 when there will be an opportunity for discussion and to view some display boards. Light refreshments will be on sale.
There will be a charge of approx £5 per head on the day to cover costs.
Numbers are limited so please book your place by emailing theglenkensstory(at)gmail.com |
