Keith Mitchell was born in Bridge of Allan on 18th April 1896. He was a private (no. 1195) in the 9th Australian Infantry Bn. and was killed at Gallipoli on 25th April 1915. His parents are listed on CWGC as William Smith Mitchell & Emily Mitchell of Bena, Victoria.
I'm working on this project with my fourth year pupils at school.
Is this man commemorated on a war memorial anywhere in Scotland? His father seems to have been a minister (baptist?) so may have moved around a bit before they all headed off for Australia... We've found his file in the Australian archives, but can't find an embarkation list for him. Also, we're looking for a photo.
Can anyone point us in the right direction?

Thanks Ken but there isn't an entry for him on his unit's embarkation list - it jumps from 1194 to 1196...

I've found him as a 14 year old pupil on the 1911 Census in Taunton, Somerset (born Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire).

This was on FMP and try as I might, I can't find him on Ancestry.

I can't find a 'Header' page, but on the FMP transcription it reads:
Address: Fairwater, Taunton, Somerset
Parish: Tauton St. James Within
Registration District: 305
Enumeration District: 22

I have the Census image, so if it's any use to you, send me your address via PM and I'll forward it.

Anne

Edit - Found the record on Ancestry and it's Taunton School. Also found him sailing from London to Australia by himself aboard the 'Osterley', departing 31st December 13, age 16.
