Their Roll of Honour indicates that the company unveiled two identical memorials after the Great War-one in their Edinburgh House on Tuesday 29th November and the second in their Glasgow House on wednesday 7th December 1921.
Is anyone local able to find out if they still exist? |

aren't we connected to "Edinburgh's War"?????
There's an item on facebook which says
JOHN MENZIES WAR MEMORIALS RELOCATED TO LADY HAIG’S POPPY FACTORY Two war memorial tablets in memory of staff at Edinburgh company John Menzies Plc. will be v...isible to hundreds of people every year after being loaned to the iconic Lady Haig’s Poppy Factory. Following John Menzies’ recent move from Princes Street, the company was unable to display the First and Second World War memorials in its new premises and an approach was made to the Poppy Factory, which employs veterans with disabilities and houses a collection of war artefacts and memorabilia. The tablets, each around one-and-a-half metres in height, list the names of the members of John Menzies staff who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars. During the First World War 46 men were killed and 21 died during the Second World War. Charlie Pelling, Manager at Lady Haig’s Poppy Factory, said: “We are honoured to be asked to look after these two striking war memorials on behalf of John Menzies. The rolls of honour from this company alone serve to remind us of the sacrifices made across the country. The memorials will be displayed in a prominent position within the Factory, where they will be highly visible to both our staff and many visitors.” _________________ Ken |
