On BBC Scotland at 630pm on Thursday 21st Nov 2013 there was a story on the Lost WW1 Bagpipe tunes and it was being launched at ERSKINE VETERANS HOSPITAL here in Scotland but the SCOTTISH PIPER'S ASSOCIATION is doing the research . They mentioned the famous Piping tunes written by soldiers in the Trenches such as the BATTLE OF THE SOMME and THE BLOODY FIELDS O FLANDERS as some .

I am researching a 15 year old boy soldier of 1914 war who died in 1918 of a heart attack after various woundings in action in 1915 and 1916 and the HCB piper attended the funeral playing "LAND O' THE LEAL " . Not heard that tune before mentioned so will notify the Scottish Piper's Assoc Vice President Hugh Anderson of that tune ..

I see that the BBC Scotland website has this Lost WW1 Bagpipe tunes researched story on its website . I dont know how to add it to this post but maybe someone else will kindly add it if it is thought to be of interest to others on this site

Isn't that simply a typo for the Land o' the Leal?

Speaking of typos. Is the £7,500 figure correct? Welcome as it is, I doubt it will go very far.

Jim , yes could not read my handwriting so have corrected the first entry above to show " Land o' the Leal "

Just had a reply from Eriskine Veterans hospital and he is passing on my email (with the correct spelling ) to Hugh Anderson of the Scottish Piper's Assoc for his info

For what it's worth, I believe the Land o the Leal is a very fine tune let down a bit by a set of words which are better suited to the Moira Anderson/ White Heather Club school of Scottish music. Even the folkie versions are a bit dreich.

Give me a solitary piper every time.
