Now does this read as a former soldier being garned a military funeral, or a still serving man?
I cannot find him on CWGC/SNWM, or a death cert in scotland. So he must have died in another part of the UK and transported for a burial at Cathcart.

I think the scotlandspeople index might be misleading
From L/Gazette 8/1/1895 p.155
Royal Artillery,.......... Major George Samuel Marsh (District Officer) is
placed upon retired pay. Dated 3rd January, 1895. .
This entry is in the L/G of 25/6/1878 p.3765
Coast Brigade, Master Gunner George Samuel Marsh to be Lieutenant, Supernumerary to the Establishment. Dated 26th June, 1878. _________________ Ken |
