UKNIWM: 54125 & 54126

St Abbs - formerly known as Coldingham Shore - is a small fishing village in Coldingham parish.

Its United Free Church was built by the generosity of Andrew Usher, he of blended whisky fame, in 1892. It is currently closed - but apparently to be refurbished for use by weddings, conferences etc. by a private individual.

Conceivably these could be 'civic' memorials, but I've not come across an instance anywhere else in Berwickshire of a village putting up a memorial seperate from the parish one*. Also they were in the church and include a man on the Ayton civic memorial, so unless better information is obtained I suspect they should go in the church category for the moment.

(*except Eccles/Leitholm but that's a complicated situation)

St Abbs Church closed a few years ago, and these items were transferred to Coldingham Priory Parish Church which has recently undergone a large refurbishment - due to which, the roll has not yet been rehung on the wall.

Roll printed by J Melville & Sons, Edinburgh.

Delightfully, it goes around the village house-by-house.
