DUNDEE COURIER: 20.06.1941
FORFAR NAVYMAN MISSING


Mr and Mrs A. Scott, 164 East High Street, Forfar have received intimation that their son, Claude, who was serving in the Royal Navy, is missing, and may be a prisoner of war.
Prior to joining the Navy in February 1940 he was employed as a plasterer with Adams & Russell, Forfar.
He was at one time a member of the Angus Cycling Club.

Date of Death: 29/05/1941
Age: 21
Regiment/Service: Royal Navy H.M.S. Hereward
Panel Reference: Panel 49, Column 2.
Memorial: PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL
Additional Information:
Son of Alexander Scott, and of Betsy Scott, of Forfar, Angus.

* HMS Hereward was bombed and sunk by German Ju-87 (Stuka) divebombers north-north-east of Plaka, Crete in position 35º20'N, 26º20'E. 75 dead, 91 survivors. All survivors were taken prisoner.
