I have James Rough Pte Royal Engineers died 30/12/16 Aberdeen City Roll of Honour: Grindlay St; Edinburgh.
I can't see him on CWGC. Has anyone anything on him? _________________ Researching WWI info from Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire & Morayshire. |

Anne,
There's a death cert for a James Rough, aged 26 on the same date a year later, 30/12/1917. Described as a Motor Body Builder (Army Pensioner) who died as the result of T.B. (6 months) at 279 Crookston St, Glasgow. His father George the informant was resident at 9 Raeburn Place, Aberdeen.
Cheers,
Derek. |

Well done, think you have found a non-com.
His pension record is on Ancestry showing his reason for discharge as Pulmonary TB.
Let me know if you want me to send you his records but I suggest a PM to Jim for the in from the cold project.

Will look into it later to see if he qualifies. The differing dates and address might be an issue proving it is the same man.
Derek
Can you forward me the DC please? _________________ Jim

I will go to the library and see what is in the local newspapers.
Thanks to everyone for their help so far. _________________ Researching WWI info from Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire & Morayshire. |

Derek
Thanks for DC.
Anne
It is the same man, but he was discharged from the Scottish Horse, not R.E. . No need to check dates, the Aberdeen Roll is definately wrong ( date and address & unit). If you find details of the burial it would be of interest.
A case can be made for him as a non comm. Although he did not die of the cause of his discharge a connection can be established between that and the cause of death.
Do you want me to put him forward? _________________ Jim
