you may have noticed that I have compiled a list of WW1 and WW2 casualties for the Furnace war memorial in Argyll but there are at least Two or maybe Three I cant Identify :

Pte A TOWNSLEY , Argylls

Pte J McVicar , Canadian Infantry but it may be the one Ive listed but maybe not

and

Munition Worker A MUNRO , M.S. and I dont know what M.S means either

Does anyone know of the unveiling for this Furnace War Memorial too

Thanks & best wishes

Townsley might be Ambrose Townsley Pte. 6496 KOSB and T/40985 ASC. There is a reference to him being in the Argylls and being discharged.

Munitions Supplies / Service ?

Jim , thanks for these excellent info . I will amended the Furnace W/M re the MacVicar Canadian Infantry as I was not happy with one I had listed

Pte Ambrose Townsley sounds right too and the abbreviation MS for the Munitions worker sounds ok too

Thanks for your continuing assistance Jim

best wishes Pat

Pat

It was dhubthaigh who provided the MacVicar CEF info, not me.
I have reported the error in their record regards Furnace to CWGC. It is likely due to a scanning error and will be corrected.

I think a bit more local research is needed to confirm that Ambrose Townsley is correct.

Thinking further M.S. is likely Ministry of Supply. They were involved with munitions / tanks, etc, etc.
