Am I correct in thinking that this memorial just commemorates the 3 men listed on it?
Have you any idea whythey have no sepearte headstones? _________________

I was thinking that there are headstones but the three mentioned don't have any. The cemetery is quite huge and I didnt have time to look around. I did take a photo of a VC winner in the crimean War but not sure if I can post it.

I knew some of the men who worked in this cemetery. According to one of them, the graves were ' lost' relaying paths, soon after the war.
Anecdotal, I am afraid, but sounds possible. |

St Peter's Aberdeen has a total of 62 war graves so is entitled to Cross of Sacrifice. In other cemteries the CWGC have built seperate memorials for those missing, or have headstones with the inscription like 'buried near this spot' or 'known to be buried in this cemetery' for missing graves. I haven't seen one like this before.
Note also this memorial has already been posted and is in the others section. It is a CWGC Cross of sacrifice for war graves and not a local Civiv memorial. I will move this to the correct location on the forum.

Hi All,
Pandabean is correct, the cemetery is quite large and the CWGC headstones are scattered throughout. I have photographed approx. 30 of these. If anyone is looking for anyone in perticular drop me a PM.
I have also posted a photo of the memorial to Sapper John Perie VC in the individual memorial section.
Regards,

I'm doing a project to photograph all stones including CWG that make mention of WWI deaths. Have taken about 60 so far heaps more to get.
I'm looking for extra details for my database. Some of the family stones contain a lot of info. Anne |
