I'm posting this on the "lost" thread because, despite attempts to contact the school I have not been able to get a response. I will continue to dig! The Wigtownshire Free Press 13 April 1916 reported the unveiling of a memorial to former teacher George G Campbell in the Central Hall of Stranraer Academy. He had enlisted with the KOSB and was severely wounded at Loos. He was evacuated to hospital at Dublin but died there. Since then the school has moved location. He is named on Lybster War Memorial and the University of Glasgow Roll of Honour. I will move to the appropriate thread if I find the Academy memorial.

According to a very poor copy of the WFP I have: "The memorial takes the form of large framed photo of the deceased, and Mr ?????? had the inscription beneath which ??? in the following terms: George G Campbell, acting Sergeant, yth Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers (a teacher in this school, who at the call of duty of duty went forth into the great war to fight for King and country, and died of wounds sustained in action, 2nd February 1916.

I spoke today to a local historian who is a retired teacher from the Academy and he cannot recall seeing this memorial. However, I have excited his curiosity and he is now a man on a mission!
