Saw this post on GWF and thought that it might be useful if one of us had a copy. There are a few of these in Scotland I think.

"In last nights Sheffield Star there was a piece about a register of all 300+ Royal Mail memorials being published.
Complied by the British Postal Museum and archive.
No details of where to view or buy such register though!

Here's a tip:

When searching, leave the initial field blank. That'll bring up the full listing.

Oh, and if you complete the survey (and enter the prize draw) where it asks you how you navigated to their site, put "other" and then specify it was a post on www.scottishwarmemorials.co.uk

Great site, I would take issue with them on one important point, I don't think they are second only to the Church of England on the number of war memorials. I have no idea how many the Church of Scotland have but it must be well over the 345 that Royal Mail has. Over 1000 would be my guess.

Inverness has quite a memorial!

There is no photograph of the only memorial in Edinburgh.

The Boer War scrolls which were at West Port in Edinburgh (building now demolished) are now in the Post Office archives.

I didn't get that tip of yours to work David. Can you get a list of Scottish memorials extracted from it and posted here? I was just putting random Scottish towns into it.

Do we need to get someone to visit? Could we ask the Royal Mail for permission to use their photographs?

The tip I gave only gives you the list of ALL the memorials. 14 pages in total. It's fairly easy to pick out the Scottish ones from there.

someone seems to have taken them to task on my previous point, their site used to read second to the church of England, it now reads second to the church!

Ah, my mistake. The error is still there on their announcement page, but is amended on the actual database welcome page.
