THE SCOTSMAN: 06.09.1920
ARBROATH EAST FREE CHURCH

A brass tablet and stained glass window erected in East United Free Church, Arbroath, as a memorial to the members and adherents who fell in the war, were yesterday dedicated by the Rev. T. S. Anderson and unveiled by Major John Moffat Scott, D.S.O., Royal Artillery. Major Moffat appealed on behalf of maimed ex-service men for special consideration in the provision of suitable employment.

This church was latterly known as St. Ninian's and now houses the Cafe Project for young people.

THE SCOTSMAN: 18.10.1920
ARBROATH

Lieutenant-Colonel D. laing, T.D., lately commanding the 2nd Highland Brigade, yesterday afternoon, at a memorial service held in Arbroath Congregational Church, unveiled a memorial tablet erected in memory of the men of the church who fell in the war.

This church was sold in 1959 and the congregation joined with the Secession Church in Maule St (demolished 1960's). The Original Secession Church was apparently the last one to be in use in Scotland. Its memorial is 'missing' as well.

That's probably right: the Original Secession Church of Scotland (formally the United Synod of Original Seceders) joined with - infact, reunited with - the Church of Scotland on 16th May 1956. But 3 congregations stayed out to soldier-on a while before eventually dissolving: Arbroath OS, Kilwinning OS, and Edinburgh Victoria Terrace OS (building is now used by Quakers).
