Over the past few years I have been collecting the names from the war memorials of Sutherland and also searching through databases, rolls of honour, old newspapers etc. for information on those who had a connection with Sutherland who have died in the wars of the 20th Century. I will post all the data I have here split into manageable chunks.

There are men listed here who enlisted in Golspie, the HQ of 5th Bn Seaforth Highlanders and have no connection to Sutherland other than that they enlisted in the county so they may well be listed on other Scottish war memorials.

I have also added those listed on the Reay and Edderton memorials. although one was is in Caithness and the other in Ross & Cromarty they are so closely connected to their nearest Sutherland communities and shared so many names it was worth including them as well.

I will update this list if I find out any more information and I would welcome any other information on these men and women.

This is part of the document with my greatgrandparents Donald Sutherland and Margaret McIntosh….also buried with them their grandson…as below.

Williamina was the sister of my grandfather Alexander Sutherland, ..seems she married James Leslie….

Wondering if the info below would be found in the honour roll of Sutherland?
I'm not necessarily looking in the right place of course! Am just trying to piece together my father's family and where they all fit in around the wars, Starting with the following, Alexander Leslie is the Grandson of my Greatgrandparents Donald Sutherland and Margaret McIntosh....his name was below, was also engraved on their headstone

Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Carpenter
Regiment/Service: Merchant Navy
Unit Text: S.S. North Britain (Newcastle-on-Tyne)

Additional information: Son of Pte. James M. Leslie, Seaforth Highlanders (killed in action in France, 14th November, 1916) and Williamina L. Leslie; stepson of Alistair Macintyre, of Avoch, Ross and Cromarty.

Kris

I'd be happy to add the names if there is a Sutherland connection. It isn't clear from you post how James M Leslie and Alexander Leslie are connected.

Kind regards

Adam
