Here are details of a new feature which might interest some of you. It means that, in most cases the CWGC cemeteries can now be viewed from the air. Those who might never visit the battlefields can now see the cemetery and it's surrounding area.
*****************************

The 23,513 CWGC war grave cemeteries with their burial statistics have always been listed but now you can actually see what they look like from the air – well, about 15,000 of them so far anyway. Cemeteries from both world wars are included.

If you go to www.infromthecold.org/war_grave_cemeteries.asp you can select any particular cemetery or memorial either by name, by country or department/province/county etc just as before but now you will see a new button marked ‘Aerial View’. Clicking on this will bring up a satellite view of each cemetery. No special computer program is needed for you to use this new facility. You can zoom in or out or move around the site as you wish and clicking on the green pointer will bring up some additional information.

The ultimate aim is to have every one of the CWGC sites available to view. At the moment, the whole of Belgium and the Netherlands is available along with virtually every site in France and the United Kingdom. A few cemeteries are still missing from these latter two countries but they are being added daily. There are also a few sites from other countries already included.

As ever, we in Scotland are at a disadvantage, as in some cases due to cloud cover / poor quality imaging only the road map view is currrently being displayed. This is soley due to the Google mapping which will, hopefully, be updated before too long to give a good quality image of all locations. Unfortunately this is outwith our control.
