Southwick Parish Church is situated in the hamlet of Caulkerbush on the B793 near the junction with the A710 "coast road" between Dumfries and Dalbeattie.
The Roll of Honour has just been found and is currently held by the Rev. James Gatherer, Minister of Colvend Parish Church and of Southwick Parish Church.
Those who died are marked with a "star" and all but 5 appear on the Southwick War Memorial. 2 men, Findlay and McVey, do not appear on any local WM. Adair is listed on Crossmichael. Kelly on Corsock and Kirkpatrick Durham WMs and Solley on Dalbeattie.
Also uncovered is what appears to be a draft or working version of the Roll.
There is also a selection of photographs of servicemen from what appears to have been a montage of those who had died.
Some of the photos have written identifications and Stuart Wilson has already been able to identify others. We hope to be able to name them all.
Southwick Church is at NX 927 573 but the long-term location of the Roll is uncertain.

Great find, just never could find the time to get to this church.
If its the same man, David Finlay could be a Victoria Cross winner.

A great find indeed. It just shows these rolls which haven't seen the light of day for years are not always gone for good.

Paul - it wouldn't have mattered if you had visited, the Roll was found in a cupboard when James was looking for something else. It was only because we had been discussing what might have happened to the Southwick School Roll of Honour that he had a second look at this sheet of cardboard and found the Church Roll.
As for Sgt. Findlay, his entry in the Stewartry RoH connects him to Glensone Farm, Southwick - but no V.C.

seems to be this man, although I cannot connect him to Southwick.

The process of naming the photos came to a halt a little time ago when the Rev. James Gatherer was taken ill. I'm glad to say he is fit again and has been adding the photos to the Church web-site at
