Josiah is named on the Dalbeattie War Memorial in Kirkcudbrightshire.
Although born in the USA, Josiah attended the Dalbeattie Higher Grade Public School when the family returned to Dalbeattie for a period in the late 1890s. His brother John was born in Dalbeattie in 1897 but the other children were born in Rhode Island.
Josiah arrived in France from the USA in September 1917. He was killed at La Forge Farm and was awarded a Distinguished Service Cross which is the second highest military award that can be given to a member of the United States Army for extreme gallantry and risk of life in actual combat with an armed enemy force. _________________ Ken |
