In the last 2 weeks, I have recieved the following message twice:

Hello Roxy,

You have received a new private message to your account on "The Scottish War Memorials Project" and you have requested that you be notified on this event. You can view your new message by clicking on the following link:

Remember that you can always choose not to be notified of new messages by changing the appropriate setting in your profile.

Thanks, The Management

However, I have had no new message for months - 25 Nov 09. Can anyone help?

Roxy

Roxy

Ignore it and delete, it's a spammer. I've had then too. Do not click on the link.

Roxy

We've had problems with a spammer pretending to be someone from the forum Admin. You can find more details here:

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5243

We've deleted their account between them sending you the message and you logging in so that explains why you can't see a message.

We've introduced some blocking to stop people using an administrator style username and will limit the permissions of new users until they have posted a valid post.

Hopefully that will put of all but the most determined spammer and we should hopefully be able to spot them before we activate their account.

Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Kind regards

Adam

Folks,

This is not the same as the spammer- I've had those as well. It's an e-mail not a PM. Like 'yogi' on another thread, the message appears to be from the forum - although it might not be: does Apache ring a bell? The attached link takes me to my message box.

The email you received is the automated email you get when you receive a Private Message. The spammer was sending Private Messages to other users.

Dave,

Got you now. Doh! You deleted the messages before I got to see them.

Thanks.
