Can anyone help with my query?
Trooper George Alexander Stewart of 11th Hussars, RAC died 26/5/1946, remembered with honour at Munster Heath Cemetery, Westfallen, Germany. Is he remembered on any memorial in Glasgow? I have been unable to find any memorial in Cathcart. He lived at 25 Cordiner Street, Glasgow. |

I used to live round the corner from there on Clincart Road. I'm pretty sure there are no civic memorials in the area however there is a church nearby on the corner of Battlefield Road and Cathcart Road and perhaps he may be commemorated there?
The problem is that he may not have been Church of Scotland and even if he was when he was growing up he could have probably gone to one of a dozen CoS churches in the area. I remember a couple of disused ones along Cathcart road.
Your best bet for finding any commemoration of a man in that area would be churches and schools if they have any rolls of honour or memorials.
Good luck in your search.
Kind regards

He may have attended the nearby Queen's Park Secondary School which was demolished but the school's war memorial has been re-sited in the Reading Room of Langside Library.
I've tried to take a photograph of these memorials but have been refused because it was busy etc. If you can't manage over I can have another look for you. |
