|
|
On page 302 of his book "The Flowers of the Forest", Trevor Royle states:
"and until 1939 the annual reports of the Registrar-General for Scotland recorded the number of former servicemen who had died as a result of their war wounds".
Now, can anyone confirm this fact and can anyone tell me from what source the Registrar-General would have found that the deceased was a former soldier?
For in my limited years of looking at death certificates I have seen very, very few mentions of previous war service.
But if it is indeed true, would this fact allow us to back research these men? _________________

It's a question probably best addressed to the current Registrar-General. |

Not sure how the Registrar General would have known that. The information he receives is exactly the same info recorded on the DC.
I know in many case they would be totally missleading. There are lots which have have former soldier details and the cause is not service related. Some record a man as "Private, ** Regiment with no number and a non service related cause. There are many others which might have originated in service but the DC has no record of this ie, TB, respiratory problems due to gassing years before, etc, etc.
Any info he had must have been based on assumption and not factual. _________________ Jim

That's what I was thinking - unless there was another source of information that I have never heard about. But I doubt this. _________________
